Directions to Washington University School of Medicine

Here's a map.

Arriving by Airplane

MetroLink (light rail system) runs from Lambert Airport to the Washington University Medical Center (and beyond.) In the main terminal, which includes Concourses A, B, C and D, walk past the X-ray security checkpoint into the area with small planes hanging overhead. Take the escalator up one floor. Turn right, and right again, look for the sign for Metrolink. In the east terminal, which is Concourse E and is only used by Southwest Airlines, walk out the front and follow the signs for Metrolink.

Buying the ticket from the machine is the hardest part. You want a single one-way ticket. Press the "1" button (I think) and give the machine $3. This ticket will be already "validated" by the machine. You do not need exact change, but the $1 change from the machine comes in the form of coins - Sacagawea or Susan B. Anthony.

It's the honor system, so someone on the train may or may not ask to see your ticket. You're at the end of the line, so just get on the next train out. Get off at the "Central West End" stop (about 20 min, about 9 stops). Come up the stairs onto S. Euclid Avenue. Turn left and walk a block. Enter the medical school on your left at 660 S. Euclid. From the guard's desk inside the door, call us. Elliot's office phone is 362-3346. One need dial only 2-3346 on an inside phone. The lab phone is 362-3345 (2-3345 from an inside phone). Someone can come guide you through the maze. If you want a challenge, ask someone for directions to Room 225 of the McDonnell Science Building.

The Alton Airport Limo Service provides ground transportation from Lambert Airport to locations throughout the St. Louis Metro area. When taking the Limo to the Medical Center, go to 660 South Euclid Avenue (not to Washington University, as that is usually understood to be the undergraduate (Hilltop) campus.) Travel time in normal traffic is 25 minutes. Prices begin at $15.00 each way. Call 1-800-946-0103 for reservations. (Their St. Louis number is 741-6550).

Taxicab service is also available. The charge to the Medical School campus is approximately $30.00 including tip.

Arriving by Train or Bus

Taxicab service is available at the arrival of all trains and buses.

Arriving by Automobile

The Medical Center is located in the northeast quadrant of the intersection of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) and Kingshighway.
From Highway 40/64 exit at Kingshighway North.
At the first intersection/traffic light, Barnes-Jewish Hospital Plaza, go right (east) for one block to Euclid Avenue. At the stop sign there, you will be looking directly at the Medical School Library and the "main" entrance to the Medical School, 660 South Euclid Avenue.
Go right (south) on Euclid Avenue a very short distance to the stop sign at McKinley Avenue. You can see a small metered parking lot just ahead on your right, or go left (east) on McKinley where there is more metered street parking. The meter maids patrol frequently.
