Dr. Weikai Li's lab is working on structural and biochemical studies of membrane proteins supporting blood coagulation.
Dr. Timothy Lohman's lab is working on equilibria and kinetics of DNA-protein interactions; DNA motor proteins (helicases) and helix destabilizing proteins.
Dr. Eric Galburt's lab focuses on mechanistic and single-molecule studies of transcription initiation in eukaryotes and pathogenic bacteria.
Dr. Linda Pike's lab is working on mechanism of action of growth factors; polyphosphoinositide metabolism.
Dr. Roberto Galletto's lab is working on the roles of DNA helicases in maintaining telomere structure.
Dr. James Janetka's lab is working on medicinal chemistry, combinatorial and parallel synthesis and chemical biology.
Dr. Greg Bowman's lab combines computer simulation and biochemical experiments to understand the role of proteins' conformational heterogeneity in antibiotic resistance and vision.
Dr. Michael Greenberg's lab focuses on generation and transduction of forces by molecular motors, with an emphasis on human disease.
Sukrit is a graduate student in the Computational and Molecular Biophysics program. He is doing his PhD thesis work in the lab of Dr. Greg Bowman. Sukrit’s thesis is focused on understanding and exploiting allostery and dynamics in cellular signaling to develop anti-cancer therapeutics. (more…)
Congratulations to Min Kyung Shinn, whose poster at the 2019 Biophysical Society was recognized with a Student Research Achievement Award (SRAA). The SRAA Poster Competition is open to all BPS Student members who are presenting posters at the Annual Meeting. Students must register for this event when they submit their abstract in one of nine subject categories. The SRAA Poster Competition involved over 300 participants this year, a Society record. On February 22nd, 2019, the department held a special seminar to recognize the recipients of the 2017 Elliot Elson Fellowship. Ms. Min Kyung Shinn shared her research on “Assembly and Binding of E. coli RecOR Proteins to SSB C-terminal tails”. Mr. Drake Jensen shared his research on “Mechanisms of transcription represivation in Mycobacterium tuberculosis”. For more information on these two Elson fellows, please click here.

January 31st, 2019 – Weikai Li, PhD, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biophysics, along with Michael L. Gross, PhD, professor of chemistry, immunology, and medicine, received a new four year grant award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for their research entitled “New chemical probes enable Mass Spectrometry-based footprinting of human protein structure in lipid membranes and cells”.
January 23rd, 2019 – Justin Porter, a Computational & Systems Biology student in the Bowman laboratory, received a three year National Research Service Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for his research entitled “Physics-based precision medicine: computationally phenotyping myosin isoforms and cardiomyopathy mutations”.
January 17th, 2019 – Andrea Soranno, PhD, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics received a new three year Research Grant Award from the Alzheimer’s Association (AARG) for his work entitled “Conformational analysis of ApoE isoforms and their role in AD mechanism”.
January 9th, 2019 – Weikai Li, PhD, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biophysics received a four year renewal from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for his research entitled “Structural and Functional Basis of the Vitamin K Cycle”.
December 27th, 2018 – Weikai Li, PhD, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biophysics, along with Rui Zhang, PhD, assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biophysics received a new three year, grant award from the W.
