Biochemistry Team – 2010 Washington University Co-ed Softball Champions

2010 Lab Rats Softball TeamWe started the game hot, both literally and figuratively, by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The Mighty Homunculi responded by scoring 4 for a 2-4 lead. This was to be their only lead of the game. The Lab Rats countered by scoring 3 runs in the 2nd inning for a 5-4 lead.
The Lab Rats continued to score 5 runs in the 4th inning, 4 of them on a 2-out rally, followed by 1-2-1 runs in the subsequent innings.

Our team had very good defensive plays throughout the game to prevent the Mighty Homunculi from scoring any further runs (Larry Page had 4 catches in left field). Offensive players of the game were: Andy Zaruba, who hit 5 of 5 with 1 home run and a ground rule double, Paul Buske 5 for 5 with a double and Matt Vogt, who also went 5 of 5 as our lead-off man. The game’s co-MVPs were short-stop Jamie Wallen and second basegirl Jen Govero. Jamie went 2 for 5 with a double and Jen was 2 for 4. They each had 3 spectacular defensive plays to earn outs and Jamie was part of a double play.

Darrell Baldwin pitched a solid 3 innings before aggravating a knee injury that took him out of the game. Wish him well in his recovery for his tennis tournament this Fall.

We celebrated by going to Nick’s: eating, drinking and playing shuffleboard or pool.
