On October 23, Dr. Peter Burgers received an honorary doctorate in Medicine from Umeå University, Sweden. In his tribute, the dean of Umeå School of Medicine Bengt Jårvholm praised Dr. Burgers’ internationally recognized scientific contributions to the fields of DNA replication and DNA damage response mechanisms, his strong support for international collaborations, and his valuable mentoring of faculty members at Umeå University. As part of the festivities, Peter gave a scientific lecture at the University, and a general lecture for the Umeå community entitled “Genomes at Risk: Search and Rescue Operations”. The ceremony was followed by a University-wide reception and banquet. Peter’s wife Bonnie and his son Mark attended the celebration. More photos..
