2013 Carl and Gerty Cori Lecture

Dr. James Spudich was selected as this year’s Carl and Gerty Cori Lecturer. He is the Douglass M. and Nola Leishman Professor of Cardiovascular Disease at Stanford University. Dr. Spudich’s lecture was entitled “The Underlying Molecular Basis of Human Hypertrophic and Dilated Cardiomyopathies”. The lecture with a reception that followed was held in the Eric P. 19th Annual Outstanding St. Louis Scientist Awards

The dinner was held at the Chase Park Plaza.

Qi Xiao worked in Dr. Michael Gross’ laboratory on a project entitled “Fast Photochemical Oxidation of Proteins Footprinting of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins”.

2013 Biophysical Society Meeting – Dr. Katherine Henzler-Wildman Receives Margaret O. Dayhoff Award

Dr. Henzler-Wildman received the Margaret O. Dayhoff Award at the 2013 Biophysical Society Meeting held in February. She received this award for her creativity and unique studies that have influenced our understanding of the physical underlying principles of membrane transporters.

MilliporeSigma Fellows Kirk Hou (2009), Jay Rammohan (2010), John Robinson (2011) and Mariah Lawler (2012) were recently honored at a luncheon that included Rakesh Sachdev, MilliporeSigma- Aldrich President and CEO, a number of other MilliporeSigma officials, Dean Larry Shapiro and a number of WUSM faculty. MilliporeSigma-Aldrich gives a generous donation annually to support graduate education in memory of Dr. Gery Cori.

The 19th Annual BCM/CMBP Retreat was held on October 26th and 27th at Cedar Creek Conference Center, New Haven, MO. Keynote speakers were: Dr. Wei Cheng – University of Michigan-”Optical Tweezers, Helicases and Beyond” and Dr. Enrique de la Cruz – Yale University-”How Cells Use Chemistry and Physics to Break the Bones that Power Their Movement”.
