A story about Jim Janetka’s research on antibiotic-sparing therapeutics, prompted by his new paper in J Med Chem, has just published in The Record. His research group has developed small molecules that prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall, halting development of urinary tract infections in mice. (more…)
Mr. Jensen received his B.A. in Chemistry and B.S. in Biology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2013. During this time, he began pursuing research in equilibrium and kinetic studies of Calmodulin target recognition. (more…)
This summer, Margery Gang, a second-year medical student, was the recipient of the David F. Silbert Summer Fellowship award.
Supported by this award, Ms. Gang performed research in the laboratories of Drs. Matthew Christopher and Timothy Ley in the Division of Oncology of the Department of Medicine. Her project was entitled “WT1 loss-of-function mutations in Acute Myeloid Leukemia”. (more…)
Dr. Michael Greenberg, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, has been chosen to receive the Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year Award.
Each fall after the completion of funded summer research projects, the Office of Undergraduate Research ask their students to nominate mentors for outstanding contributions to their success as undergraduate researchers. (more…)
The 2015-2016 David F. Silbert Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award goes to Ms. Lindsey Steinberg for her work in the Microbes & Pathogenesis course. Ms. Steinberg was nominated by Dr. Henry Huang. Mr. Welty received his B.S., double majoring in chemistry and biochemistry, from the University of Minnesota Duluth. During that time, he began doing research studying the effects of molecular crowding on diffusion using fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS). (more…)
Ms. Hailemariam received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She joined the Division of Biological and Biomedical Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis in 2012 as part of the Molecular Cell Biology program. (more…)

On June 21, 2016, Dr. Thomas Kraft was selected to receive the 2016 Ceil M. DeGutis Prize in Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry. This award was given in recognition of Dr. Kraft’s significant contribution to the field of Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry.
Dr. Kraft was nominated by his mentor Dr. Paul Hruz for the research that Dr. Kraft did to develop novel tools to investigate the structure and function of the insulin-responsive facilitative glucose transporter GLUT4.
Dr. Thomas Kraft was a DBBS student in the Biochemistry program. After his defense, Dr. Kraft did a very short postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Xander Barnes in the Department of Chemistry at Washington University. In June, Dr. Kraft accepted a postdoctoral position at Roche Pharma Research and Early Development, Roche Innovation Center in Penzberg, Germany.
Maxwell Zimmerman, Computational & Molecular Biophysics student in the laboratory of Dr. Greg Bowman, has been selected as a 2016-2017 CBSE Graduate Student Scholar. Maxwell was recognized for the early promise he has shown in the development of novel sampling algorithms that are aiding feature-based sampling of high dimensional conformational spaces.
Maxwell has also been selected as a three year Monsanto Fellow which will allow him a unique opportunity to interact with Monsanto scientists in a variety of venues.
